Pinan Shodan Chest Block Front Kick Bunkai

March 18, 2017

The Pinan Katas provide many excellent self-defense techniques and fighting principles. The nameĀ Pinan, when considered from its Chinese language roots, means “to be safe,” or “to stay safe” or “to have peace and security.” Thus, we can see that Anko Itosu, who created and named these kata, intended them to teach practitioners how to keep themselves safe and secure. This video explores three possible applications for the simultaneous “chest block” and front kick movements: getting to the rear of the attacker, defending against an attack from the rear, and defending against an attack from the side.
