Shoulder Grab Application for Pinan Shodan

November 19, 2018

Self-defense encounters are characterized by chaos in which the attack comes from various angles, including the rear, and often we have to deal with more than one attacker. Sometimes the enemy has accomplices who may join the attack, or bystanders may decide to join the fight, either with you or against you. A common attack on the street in such situations is the shoulder grab from the rear, in which the attacker grabs your right shoulder with his left hand to spin you around to punch you in the face with his right hand (usually the power hand for most people). We can apply the chest block, front kick move in Pinan Shodan/Heian Nidan as a defense against this kind of attack.
