We strive to teach all techniques in relation to application or self-defense contexts. As we learn the basic movements and drill them up and down the floor (kihon training), we also apply those movements with partner drills and impact training. Form and application are taught together. In this video, Sensei Hogsette teaches the outer reaping throw as an application of the cat stance (the stance is actually a transitional position leading up to the throw), low blocks as wrist releases and arm clearing, and high blocks as throat strikes.
