This impact-training exercise demonstrates a bunkai application for the high-block techniques in Pinan Nidan (Heian Shodan).
- The lapel has been grabbed, and you reach up with the hikite hand to grasp and control the grabbing hand.
- The other hand strikes the crook of the attacker’s elbow (the windup for the “block”) then strikes the exposed throat with the high block motion.
- I’m adding a reverse punch as a follow-up technique: reach down and pull across on the crook of his elbow to twist his body and expose his kidneys and back.
- Reverse punch to the kidneys.
Please excuse the poor sound quality and camera angle—I filmed this with an iPhone propped up on a chair. Enjoy!
