Fukyugata Ni Pad Drill 1

Explanation and demonstration of a solo pad drill practicing a practical application of the opening sequence of fukyugata ni or gekisai ichi. In this application, we are looking at the opening moves as a way to deal with a sucker punch or if the fight has gotten away from you. Key principles explored are the flinch response, moving toward what you know and away from what you don’t know, hikite as controlling limbs and upper body, and using the low side stance to pull your enemy off balance, setting him up for a hammer fist (low-block application) to the back of the head/neck. Also, working in a sweep technique.
