Pinan Nidan High Block Sucker Punch Bunkai Drill

July 12, 2019

High blocks in kata are often interpreted as blocking a technique aimed at the head; however, such an application is unlikely, given that the high block is just too slow (two movements) to block a punch to the head (one movement). In this video, we explore a possible application of the high block as a counter strike to the neck of an enemy who has thrown a sucker punch or a wild haymaker. This video also incorporates a throw as an application for the pivot into low block that comes at the end of the high block sequence in the kata.
